Winter Swim 2019-2020

We are continuing our Sunday evening practices at Providence Rec Center, from 6-7 p.m., running from September 8, 2019 to May 17, 2020. The cost for the program is $350 per swimmer. There will be 25 sessions, with the holidays and school breaks off (10/13/19, 11/3/19, 11/10/19, 12/1/19, 12/22/19, 12/29/19, 1/19/20, 1/26/20, 2/2/20, 2/16/20, 4/5/20, and 4/12/20).

We have 4 lanes from 6-7 p.m. at Providence Rec Center. Due to the depth of the pool and capacity of the lanes, we will only accept swimmers who were a part of the Competition or Development team in 2019, and are planning to swim in 2020. Priority will be given to swimmers who will be age 14 or below for 2020. All swimmers must be able to swim multiple 25 meter lengths to be accepted into the program. Within these restrictions, swimmers will be accepted on a first-come basis, keeping in mind that we need to balance lane use and swimmer ages. We have space for around 45 swimmers total.

Eric Engstrom and Vicky Carmody will again coach the program. They will be assisted by a number of SHBR high school swimmers. We will continue to maintain the high number of coaches, with an emphasis on stroke development and fun. Eric & Vicky will continue their approach to keep stroke development interesting by including games, races, and candy rewards, to keep the swimmers motivated all winter long.

Please leave all registration forms, completely filled out with attached payment, in the folder for Nate Carmody at the front desk of SHBR. All checks must be made out to 'Nate Carmody'. You will receive an email confirming your registration once it is processed. You can alternately send the form and payment to:

Nate Carmody

Falls Church, VA 22042

If you have any questions, please contact Nate Carmody.

Declaring A meet availability

We are asking every swimmer on the roster to declare their availability for each A Meet.

Either your swimmer is "available" to swim on Saturday or your swimmer is "not available". To declare your swimmer's availability, please visit the signup calendar, click on the "Meet Entry" button next to the meet and edit your swimmers' status. You can do this now for all the A meets this summer.

Even if you don't think your swimmer will be selected to swim in an A Meet, it would be helpful to have their availability. It also saves you from getting the automated email asking you to declare.

Thank you!

Note: If you go to Sport Fair, please make sure you let them know you are with Sleepy Hollow BATH AND RACQUET, to avoid any confusion with our next door neighbors at SHRA.

For those of you not familiar with sizing of swimsuits, USUALLY the following conversion chart works:

Youth – 22=6/7, 24=8/10, 26=12/14, 28=16/18
Adult – 30=0/2, 32 = 4/6, 34=8, 36=10/12, 38=14/16

Note for families with new 8 and under swimmers who will be attending evaluations: You may want to wait until after evaluations to purchase a suit, to save yourselves the expense in the event your swimmer is recommended for Seal Pups or Seal School, neither of which program expects swimmers to wear the team suit.

Goal Setting

Seals (and Seal parents),

We have talked a lot this week at practice about setting goals for the season. When you set a goal for yourself, you begin to make a mental plan of how you will become successful. Instead of telling yourself, "I can't do this", you say, "I can't do this YET." As you walk on deck every day for practice or a meet, keep your goal in mind and work towards achieving it!

I would like for each swimmer to fill out the form linked below. Whether you want to drop time in a stroke, make your first A meet this season, or finally fix that pesky scissor kick in your breaststroke, any goal is achievable! The coaches are here to help you improve your swimming, so please let us know what we can do to help you be successful! It's time for us to be ALL IN TOGETHER.

Form: https://goo.gl/forms/msKMUmTVmUZ1srTt1

PS- the first 20 swimmers to fill out the form will get a Seal Buck!

Go Seals!

Coach Callie
