Parents, 

We are excited to welcome new swimmers interested in joining the SHBR competition team! Evaluation Dates & Times Evaluations for all swimmers (regardless of age) who have not previously been on the SHBR competition team will take place May 26–May 29 from 6:00–7:00 PM.

Each swimmer should sign up for one timeslot only 

 Please include your swimmer’s name and age in the comment section If all time slots are full or you cannot make any of these times, please email Susan Bower ([email protected]). We will make sure every swimmer has an opportunity to be evaluated. 

What Coaches Are Looking For:

To be placed on the competition team, swimmers should be able to swim freestyle (“forward crawl”) for one length of the pool (25 meters) with: 

 Face in the water 

 Arms and legs moving continuously 

 Side breathing 

 No stopping What to Expect During Evaluations 

 A coach will be in the water with each swimmer to provide support and guidance 

 Evaluations are brief and designed to assess comfort and basic skills in the water 

 Results will be shared with parents by the next day 

 In some cases, a swimmer may be asked to return for a second evaluation 

Parent Viewing Guidelines 

To help swimmers focus and allow coaches to evaluate effectively, parents will not be permitted on deck during evaluations. We understand this may feel new or unfamiliar, thank you for your cooperation in creating a calm environment for all swimmers. 

Possible Placement Outcomes 

After evaluation, swimmers may be: 

1. Placed on the competition team 

2. Placed on the Seal Pups developmental team 

3. Referred for additional swim lessons to build skills 

What to Bring 

 Comfortable swimsuit 

 Goggles 

 Towel

 Arrive at the Upper Pool at least 5 minutes early to check in and prepare
